Introduction

ITFC and IDB in collaboration with the Ministry in charge of Foreign Trade in Morocco, are organizing an event in conjunction with the COP22 to be held in Marrakesh-Morocco, from Nov 07 to 18, 2016.  The event highlights the correlation between International Trade and Climate Change. The event should identify a number of ways in which International Trade in general, Islamic Trade Finance in specific and climate change might be mutually supportive.

In addition, this event will provide an opportunity for ITFC to engage stakeholders in OIC and/or MENA on sustainable trade finance within the Banking industry by focusing on the newly launched (2014) sustainable letter of shipments (LCs).

  • Objectives

The event will be a platform of presenting the linkages that connect trade and climate change, and how trade policies applied by OIC member countries have impact on climate change and the impact on the physical infrastructure on which trade depends.

  • Gaining understanding of the correlation between International Trade and Climate Change.
  • Taking stock of the latest issues and measures applied related to effects of International Trade on Climate Change.
  • Deliberations & presentations with a view to analyze the impacts of new developments.
  • Discuss role of OIC and member countries in this global agenda.
  • Convening experts to discuss role that banks can play in incentivizing the trade of sustainably produced commodities.
  • Discussing the efforts made by experts in sustainable trade finance and how that could apply to IDB Member Countries.
  • Deliberations & presentations with a view to analyze the impacts of new developments.
  • Discuss role of OIC and member countries in this global agenda.
